Improving Rheumatoid Arthritis Symptoms

Improving Rheumatoid Arthritis Symptoms
Hans Hasselfors

Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease where white blood cells
suddenly attack healthy tissues, specifically joints and
cartilage. There are a few ways to help ease the symptoms,
depending on which stage of the disease you are in. If you are
in the early stages of rheumatoid arthritis there is a new
disease modifying anti-rheumatic drug (DMARD) which has done an
excellent job in controlling symptoms. It works best in the
initial stages, so if you suspect you may have rheumatoid
arthritis, see your doctor as soon as possible.

There are other options if you are in later stages of rheumatoid
arthritis. These are also helpful if you are still in early
stages. One is to use anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin,
ibuprofen, and naproxen. This does a great job reducing pain and
inflammation. However, these have side effects including heart
problems and gastrointestinal bleeding. You can also use
acetaminophen for your rheumatoid arthritis, which does not have
these side effects.

When symptoms are mild, moderate exercising including
stretching, weight lifting, and aerobics ease rheumatoid
arthritis symptoms. Be sure to rest when your joints flare up as
this would just add strain to your aching joints. Stretching is
important because it increases flexibility and is easy enough to
do at any age. When stretching, stop when you feel mild
discomfort and hold for 10 to 30 seconds. Then repeat 3 to 5
times. Weight lifting also improves flexibility as well as
strength and balance. Barbells are easy, convenient, and
inexpensive. Remember to stretch before lifting any weights.
Start with 3 sets of 8 to 10 repetitions. If you would like you
can start with no weights at all (such as going leg lifts for
rheumatoid arthritis in the knees), then add weights when you
can. Lift the weights slowly and evenly to not damage the
cartilage.

Some other popular forms of exercise for rheumatoid arthritis
are aqua therapy and Tai Chi. Be sure to find an actual
therapist as they have specific exercises they do for arthritis
patients. Aerobics instructors may push to far and do further
damage. Tai Chi has no long term studies proving its
effectiveness, but due to testimonials from patients who have
taken Tai Chi, the Arthritis Foundation began offering the
class. Remember to always check with your doctor before starting
an exercise program.

Some other ways to relieve rheumatoid arthritis pain are to lose
weight to take additional pressure off joints, eating a healthy
diet, getting enough sleep, using heat or ice, and possibly
using devices such as a cane, brace, or splint. There are many
resources for additional information on rheumatoid arthritis
including websites, flyers, periodicals, books, etc. Your doctor
should be able to provide you with some reference on where to
look for additional help.

I Cured My Arthritis You Can Too

I Cured My Arthritis You Can Too
Margie Garrison – “The Arthritis Lady”

Yes… I Cured My Arthritis You Can Too

From the age of 11 to age 53 I avoided holding hands; they were
painful to the touch, so puffed up, sore and hot!!!

Raising four children, of course, I had to hold their hands. I
tried so hard not to let them know how painful it was but, they
knew I was in constant pain.

I always felt bad for my husband because holding hands was
something we missed. It was hard to knit or crochet, which I
loved to do.

Walking, bending or standing for any period of time was so
painful for me. My children learned, as small children, to do
what ever they could to help around the house.

I went to over thirteen “Arthritis” specialists, which were of
little or no help.

I was prescribed many different drugs and went through all kinds
of treatments for my arthritis.

I was in so much pain that I tried anything and everything to
find relief.

I was so desperate to find something that would stop her pain
that I:

* Went to over 13 physicians, (“Arthritis Specialists”) * I took
Codeine, Darvon, Sprays and “Gold Treatments” * I was placed in
traction with a large weight to stretch her body, was tied to
the bed and couldn’t move for a week! * I was put in an upper
body cast for 3 months * I wore shoe lifts * And so much more!!!

In 1980, the last year I suffered from Arthritis, I spent an
average of $40.00 month on miscellaneous drugs, $30.00 for a
monthly doctor appointment and $30.00 on pain killers. That’s a
total of $100.00 a month. I wish I could have spent that money
on something I liked to do instead.

All the drugs, all the doctors, all the treatments, all the
money… ALL the FAILURES!!!

Doctor after doctor told me that there was no cure for arthritis
and that I should, “Take this medication, go home and learn to
live with it”. One doctor predicted that I would be in a wheel
chair within 5 years.

I was crushed… Being the eternal optimist, never gave up… I
went on a crusade to find a way to stop my arthritis. And I
did!!!

I spent many years researching arthritis, and put together this
incredible program, “I Cured My Arthritis You Can Too” , that
shows you in easy to follow steps how you can do what I did at
home, and without drugs.

I know this may sound too good to be true. But I did it… I
have gone through what you are going through right now. I have
now been living Pain Free from Arthritis for 25 years.

I am known on the World Wide Web (and elsewhere) as “The
Arthritis Lady” and am now doing something I “like” to do. I
spend most of my time answering thousands of emails and phone
calls from people who suffer with arthritis. I answers questions
and help solve their problems.

Here are just a few things people have written me…

“My wife has rheumatoid arthritis and she tried what you wrote
in your book and she has been almost totally pain free for a
month so far. Thanks for publishing your book.

Roy – Goose Creek, S.C

“I have purchased your book and it is a miracle from God. I
really believe in it. It has opened my eyes toward the right
foods we should eat to keep our bodies healthy and free from
diseases.

Evangeline – Culloden, GA

“Thank the Lord and you. Your book is my companion in my quest
for health. I can’t praise it enough. You are a pioneer in the
practice of prevention in Medicine.

Mary B – Santa Cruz, CA

My friend raved to me about how your book helped him. He had
taken so much Cortisone until his doctor balked at giving it to
him. My friend said he spends many painful, sleepless nights,
and that his life was pure misery. Now, some five months later,
he has no pain, and sleeps very well. He has lost some 40 pounds
and feels 20 years younger.

Lewis – Oklahoma City, Ok

“My friend is over 80 years old. She was unable to do hand work
and almost unable to walk. Now she is able to do both. Mrs. A.

How to treat Rheumatoid Arthritis

How to treat Rheumatoid Arthritis
Mike

Arthritis is the term used for over 100 rheumatoid and joint related diseases, with the most common being Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis.
The word arthritis refers to “joint inflammation” and rheumatoid arthritis is actually an attack on the immune system where the system turns on itself and attacks the joints.
Rheumatoid arthritis causes joint pain and swelling, redness, warmth and can affect other organs of the body like skin, eyes, lungs, heart, blood, nerves or kidneys. Rheumatoid arthritis affects approximately 1% of the population, in which 75% of those diagnosed are women. The exact cause of rheumatoid arthritis is unknown, but scientists attribute this disease to a combination of genetic, environmental and hormonal factors. With rheumatoid arthritis, something seems to trigger the immune system to attack itself. This could happen after a sudden trauma or a surgery, and the severity is not the same in all people. Some theories suggest that a virus or bacteria alter the immune system. Therefore, since the root cause of rheumatoid arthritis is so different from osteoarthritis, of course the treatment and remedies are different also.
Rheumatoid arthritis is diagnosed by a positive Rh factor, (a blood test), and x-rays that show rheumatoid deterioration in the joints. There are many different ways to treat rheumatoid arthritis, which include medication, rest, exercise and surgery. The medications fall into two specific categories, NSAIDs and DMARDs, and attempt to reduce the pain, swelling and inflammation. Humira, one of the latest discoveries, attempts to isolate the diseased cells so they cannot reproduce and cause more harm.
In the past 10 years, alternative medicine has also taken a predominant place in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.
Some of these non-prescription methods include:
* ibuprofen
* herbs such as cat’s claw and white willow to reduce pain
* glucosamine and chondriton are used to promote new cartilage growth
* warm baths in Epsom Salts
* application of menthol ointment to the affected joints
Rheumatoid arthritis is not to be taken lightly or ignored, so investigate the treatments and choose the best for yourself.
